Recently, we set our students the task to ‘Build A Bicycle,’ with the only rule being that the artefact could not exceed 30cm by 30cm in size. We are so proud of all the students who entered into the competition, for using their creativity to make a bike inspired artefact, we had some very impressive and unique entries!
We are delighted to announce that two of our students have won a much deserved refurbished bicycle each, sourced from Bren Bikes. These students impressed us with their competition entries, and we are thrilled that we are able to gift them this wonderful prize! Toby H, Y11, impressed us with an interactive poster including facts about cycling, and a unique feature that enabled the 2D bicycle to move up and down on the page, and Marcos J, Y10, produced a very detailed illustration of a bike, it was delicate and dainty, yet included the tiniest of details.
This competition was in partnership with the Sustrans (who promote sustainable travel), who also generously gifted us some cycling goody bags to give away to our winners, including bike locks, helmets, puncture kits, water bottles, seat covers, and much more! We were excited to surprise our students with their prizes, and certificates of participation in an Awards Presentation attended by The Sustrans Travel Officer, Sam Turner, who we were thrilled and thankful to have join us at this special event.
After the awards presentation, the students enjoyed some cakes and biscuits, whilst exploring the features and fixtures on their new bikes, before wheeling them to our new Bike Shelter, where Sam Turner gave some words of wisdom about safe cycling, and showed the students how to securely lock their bikes away.
Both students were elated at the news of a new Bike, and couldn’t wait to take these home and put them to good use! Congratulations to everyone involved, we wish our winner’s happy and safe cycling, on their new bikes, and well done to our runners-up and all other entrants for the time spent creating their artefacts too, it was a tough decision to choose just two winners.
