Letter to parents from Mr Hill

Dear Parent/Carer,

This has been a very short half-term and, as a result, it has felt rather frantic at times, with so much activity squeezed into the last 4½ weeks in school. And, as always seems to be the case, Year 11 and 13 students have seen the start of their GCSE and A-Level examinations coincide with the arrival of warm, sunny summer weather. Despite that though their positivity, resilience and support of each other has been most impressive and I am sure they are now looking forward to a short break in the middle of their exams over half-term.

Household Support Fund
Support for students in receipt of Free School Meals (FSM) will once again be provided over the half-term, with the Local Authority providing £15 per eligible student for the period. A £15 Tesco e voucher per eligible student will be e-mailed out to parents over the half-term break.

Please note that the school is able to check eligibility for our students’ families and hence do please get in touch us with us (via admin@helsbyhigh.org.uk) if you would like us to check out eligibility for Free School Meals for students and also for Household Support Fund vouchers over school holidays.

Farewell
Today marks the last day at Helsby for our School Business Manager, Mr Vickers, who moves on to a new position working in Special Schools in Cheshire East after the half-term break. Mr Vickers has worked at Helsby for 13 years and has made a massive contribution to the school, in what is a crucial role in modern schools. Despite all the turbulence in school funding during that time, he has ensured that the school has remained in a healthy financial position and he has been behind many of the recent exciting developments to the school site, such as the 3G Pitch and the new English block which opened last September. His commitment to the school, to colleagues and to ensuring the very best provision for its students has never wavered and we wish him all the very best for the future as he moves on from the school. We also welcome Mr Dixon, who joined us two weeks ago and will take over the Business Manager position from Mr Vickers after half-term.

Very best wishes to all our students for the half-term break, especially to our Year 11 and 13 students as they balance having a rest after the exams that have gone with preparing for those still to come. I hope all of our families have a very pleasant and relaxing week and we look forward to seeing our students back in school again on Monday 2nd June.

Very best wishes,

Martin Hill
