Year 12 Information Evening – Target Setting and Assessment – Recorded Presentation

As we approach the end of the first term of the new academic year, we are delighted by how well our Year 12 students have settled into their Key Stage 5 (KS5) journey and how they have coped with the routines and expectations of A-Levels and Level 3 Vocational qualifications. This first term our focus has been on supporting students in their transition into KS5, developing study skills, and developing positive relationships between students and teachers, and building students’ confidence in their learning. This was an important stage as it sets the foundations for learning upon which we will build.

Moving forwards, it is important that we ensure our teaching and learning is tailored to meet the needs of all our students, so that their academic progress is sustained and students reach their full potential. Whilst teachers make daily assessments of students’ progress through marking and feedback of work and dialogue in lessons, it is important that we have a consistent assessment of students’ ability to ensure that students are appropriately stretched and challenged in their learning.

Early in the spring term, we will conduct our first assessment week for students in Year 12 that will commence on Monday 15th January. The purpose of this is to enable us to assess students’ attainment and progress across the curriculum, but also to inform us of any gaps in knowledge or understanding that can help us adapt our teaching and learning and student support moving forwards.

We would like to draw your attention to the narrated PowerPoint presentation below, which details some of the procedures and support that Year 12 students can expect during this assessment window. We hope that providing the presentation in this format provides students and families with the opportunity to watch at a mutually convenient time.

Please do not hesitate to contact us at 6thformadmin@helsbyhigh.org should you need any further information.
