As an extracurricular activity, we took part in the gold industrial cadets STEM project, which gave us the opportunity to work on a relevant, real-life problem. Our brief was to design a hydrogen fuelling station. We had to research this industry, write a report and present our ideas and proposed concept to a panel. We then had a trip Liverpool University to show other groups our project and we had the opportunity to see others’ projects.
The project helped us to broaden and apply the skills and knowledge we have learnt during our A-level studies, as well as being an excellent addition to our personal statements.
Our efforts were rewarded, as Helsby High School received the Innovation Award for our region.
